Patient Information

One of psychotherapy's greatest merits is that it aims to treat not just symptoms, but the whole person. The goal of treatment is to help people become more mature, enlivened and well-functioning human beings. The process involves not only the healing of psychic wounds but also the awakening of one's potentials for courage, passion, joy and optimism.

Who can benefit?

In today's society, we know that people are dealing with broken relationships, job losses, and confusion about life goals, and we are prepared to help you to better understand yourself so that you live life more fully and consciously.

Psychotherapy can be valuable in treating a wide range of problems and issues. People enter therapy to gain support, clarity and understanding when they are experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-image, inhibitions, trauma and grief, family and relationship conflicts, career issues, and identity concerns.

Finding the Right Therapist

The best psychotherapy enables a person to access the natural sources within for growth, strength and creativity. These sources are many and various - not limited to, but including spiritual, cognitive, developmental and emotional. Each therapeutic process is unique, arising from the organic collaboration of patient and therapist. It is up to the talent and training of the therapist to engage each patient in the specific therapeutic relationship that will encourage positive change.

After a careful evaluation following two intake sessions, a therapist is selected that makes sense both for the problem or issue at hand and for the person who has sought help. Every effort is made to ensure compatibility, because in psychotherapy, the right relationship is of paramount importance.

Our therapists are prepared to work with the many issues that face people who seek therapy. They represent and make every effort to address the needs of people from diverse economic, ethnic, racial, cultural, religious backgrounds and sexual orientations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Intake Interviews?

At the intake session we are provided with information which helps us to decide what kind of treatment is best for you.

To enable the professional staff to arrive at the most appropriate plan for your treatment, there is a two-step evaluation proceedure:

1. Initial Interview

2. Psychiatric Evaluation & Conference

In the intake interviews you'll have a chance to discuss what brought you to the point of seeking therapy and what your problems or issues seem to be. If you've been in therapy before you may have some helpful information regarding what was or wasn't useful to you in the past. If you've never been in therapy before you may have some basic questions about what therapy will be like, that the intake worker can answer. Most people find the intake interviews to be a comfortable experience that gives them a good feeling about starting their therapy.

A staff conference takes place after these two interviews in order to plan your treatment and assign a compatible therapist.

What is the cost of the intake interviews?

The Initial Interview is $60, the Psychiatric Evaluation & Conference is $80.00.

Note: Unlike your therapy fee, which is determined according to a sliding scale and based on income and ability to pay, the diagnostic intake fees are a set fee.

How often do I need to see my therapist?

Although once a week sessions are the minimum requirement in individual therapy, there are patients who wish to be seen more often. It is also possible that during treatment both therapist and patient decide on an increase in frequency.

How long will the treatment last?

The length of therapy is decided by both the therapist and the patient.

Every person is different. Some people have severe symptoms, others do not. As a rule, we prefer to explore problems intensively, believing that anything less produces superficial results. Some problems are more easily resolved than others, so it is difficult to predict the length of your therapy from the beginning.

Are my records confidential?

Our professional staff is dedicated to keeping your record and your treatment confidential with the following parameters:

  • (1) when you have signed a waiver for insurance companies,
  • (2) when child abuse is reported,
  • (3) when you express serious threats of intended physical harm to yourself or another person or
  • (4) when subpoenas are issued by a court or an officer of the court.

In every other situation we may provide no information about you unless you sign a release and forward it to us.
